Welcome to “Wellbeing Wednesdays”
Welcome to “Wellbeing Wednesdays”…
A weekly post/short blog on topics of all things related to our Wellbeing as humans and of course, in relation to our beautiful planet Earth! So let’s begin with understanding what it is to “BE WELL”, and how do we get there…
Wellbeing: The state of being happy, healthy or prosperous…
So what does it mean to be healthy?
The definition of health as defined by the WHO: “Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
Health is a resource for everyday life, not the objective of living; it is a positive concept, emphasizing social and personal resources, as well as physical capacities.
The enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health is one of the fundamental rights of every human being without distinction of race, religion, political belief, economic or social condition.”
Our overall health and wellbeing are impacted by our physical, mental, spiritual, emotional and financial health, as well as genetic, social, cultural and environmental factors. One does not always have control over all the conditions and factors which affect our health, but we can take steps to make healthier choices, which, over time, with active participation and commitment, will improve our overall state of wellbeing.
Wellbeing encompasses quality of life and the ability of people and societies to contribute to the world with a sense of meaning and purpose. Healthy individuals and communities help to create active, thriving, sustainable societies who, in turn are more resilient and able to respond to challenges, health threats and environmental disasters…
Being healthy doesn’t only include what we eat and how much we exercise, it’s so much more! It also encompasses what we allow to dwell in our minds and how we engage in our own self-care. With seemingly less and less time on our hands these days, it is even more important to be mindful of HOW we spend our time and WHO we spend it with. Prioritize and set aside the time to get creative, spend time in nature, find hobbies and people that FULFILL you and spark joy! Try to find better balance in your life and take steps and actions that make you FEEL whole and enhance your overall wellbeing. Here are a few ideas to get you started, or back on track if you fell off the wagon as they say!
- Set some achievable, realistic goals and have a plan to get there
- Eat a balanced, nutritious diet full of fruit, veg & protein & limit processed foods
- Move your body for 30 mins a day (find something you enjoy, or it’s harder to stick to)
- Manage your stress levels with a daily meditation/breathwork practice
- Get enough, quality sleep
- Limit alcohol use and avoid smoking
- Drink enough water
- Maintain good personal hygiene
- Be kind, patient and compassionate with yourself, and others (it’s a process not a race)
- Ask for help or seek professional advice where needed
- Spend time in nature and with friends or family
- Practice daily gratitude
Good health starts with YOU, be IN it, get involved, you can change your story! Actively empower yourself with continued learning, trial and error. Keep it simple, stay humble, get the basics right and continue from there… Your health is your WEALTH!
